Prepare for Placement Exam

In addition to accepting SAT, ACT, and CPE scores, SGTC offers on-site testing on COMPASS and ASSET.

What is COMPASS?

The COMPASS is an un-timed computerized placement test developed by American College Testing (ACT) that lets you and your school work together to help you succeed in your educational program. COMPASS helps you identify your strengths as well as your weaknesses in specific subject areas. Your school will use this information to guide you toward classes that strengthen and build logically upon your current knowledge and skills.

What is ASSET?

The ASSET placement test, developed by American College Testing (ACT) lets you and your school work together to help you succeed in your educational program. The ASSET test is administered using paper and pencil in a timed format; it helps you identify your strengths as well as your weaknesses in specific subject areas. Your school will use this information to guide you toward classes that strengthen and build logically upon your current knowledge and skills.

An appointment for placement testing can be scheduled in the Admissions office, Room 109 of Odom Center, Americus Campus, or you may call 1-229-931-2273; and at the Crisp County Center call 1-229-271-4040.

Test Taking Tips and Sample Questions

The internet address for more information on COMPASS AND ASSET is www.act.org

At the ACT website, click on Assessments, then COMPASS or ASSET, then Sample Questions to review test taking tips and sample questions similar to those found on the actual test.

To enter most of our programs, you will need to take only 3 parts of the COMPASS or ASSET test: Reading, Writing, & Numerical Skills/Pre-algebra. However, there are several diploma programs in addition to our Associate degree programs that have Algebra testing requirements.
