GED Testing

South Georgia Technical College invites adults to participate in free classes in each of our five counties. Instructors are available to help adults prepare for the GED Test, improve basic skills, improve basic computer skills, or study English as a second language. Students may dual enroll in select college classes along with GED classes.

New students entering Adult Education attend orientation and receive evaluation with the TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education). Then the student begins a personalized course of study according to areas of need. Instructors conduct classes with individualized attention, group lessons, and computerized instruction. Once enrolled in the program, students may take the official GED Ready Practice Test to indicate testing readiness. Once you take the GED Ready Practice Test, you’ll get your Enhanced Score Report. It tells you if you’ll pass and gives you a personalized study plan to score higher. When enrolled in one of our classes, you and your teacher can review the results together and work on the skills necessary for passing.

Orientation is offered at 1:00 pm every Monday at the following: Stein Center, 200 Cotton Avenue, Americus, GA. 229-931-5713 and Crisp County Campus, 402 N. Midway Rd., Cordele, GA. 229-271-4059. Orientation is offered at 1:00 pm every Wednesday at SGTC McLain Center, 900 S. GA Tech Parkway, Americus, GA 229-931-2563. All other sites are open for orientation on a walk-in basis. The contact numbers for each center are listed below.

Instructors are available to assist interested persons in starting the program. The GED is given once a month at the Cordele Campus and every Tuesday, Wednesday, and the first Saturday of the month at the Stein Center in Americus. The test is delivered on computer and starts when you set up your free MyGED account at Use your account to: get study materials, see our state’s testing rules, schedule your test and see your scores once you’ve taken the test. Your account is available 24/7 on your computer, smartphone or tablet. The cost of the test is $160 for all four parts (Reasoning Through Language Arts (RLA), Mathematical Reasoning, Science and Social Studies). Each part is $40 and retakes are $20. Every tester is allowed 2 retakes for each subject at a cost of $20. The 4th time taking the same subject test requires a 60 day wait and the cost returns to $40. Scholarships for testing are available after attending 40 hours of class and scoring a certain minimum on the GED Practice Test.
