Steven Wright will begin his eighth season as Head Coach in the 2013-2014 season and third year as Athletic Director. The Jets are 137-85 in Wright’s seven seasons as a Head Coach. He also served five seasons as the Jets Assistant Coach, where he helped to compile a 102-57 record. In all, Wright has been part of 12 seasons at SGTC and has helped to compile 239-142 record, including a home winning percentage of over 75%.
Wright led the Jets to their second GJCAA basketball title and the Jets became the first team from the Technical College System of Georgia to earn a berth in the NJCAA National Basketball Tournament in 2009, where the JETS won a 1st round game and made it to the Elite Eight round. In 2009, Wright was named GJCAA Coach of the Year, Region XVll Coach of the Year and District 13 Coach of the Year.
Over 85% of SGTC student athletes have graduated with an Associate’s Degree during Wright’s tenure. Almost 40 of Wright’s players have signed a National Letter of Intent with four year colleges or universities.
Wright earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s in Health and Physical Education from Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus. He is married to Brandi Wright, and they have three children: Chandler (13), Camden (11), and Carley (8).

Douglas J. Byrd
Douglas J. Byrd joined the Jets coaching staff in November 2011 as Assistant Coach, after spending the previous two seasons as Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach/Director of Basketball Operations at Mount Pisgah Christian School in Johns Creek, Georgia.
During Byrd’s two seasons with South Georgia Tech, his duties included working with skill development, overseeing recruitment of student- athletes, directing individual and group workouts, preparing scouting reports, exchange of game film, and assisting with team travel arrangements.
In his first year at Mount Pisgah, the school won more games than the previous 3 years combined. Pisgah upset two top 10 teams in the 2009-2010 season and it was its first non-losing record since moving to Georgia High School Association (GHSA) in 2006. It was also the first time Pisgah posted double-digit wins in a single season in GHSA.
In his second year, the Patriots posted the first winning season (16-9) in Pisgah history with a school record for most wins.
Other coaching experiences include being part of the varsity staff at state perennial power Whitefield Academy and winning the GHSA 1A state championship in 2003 & 2009. Byrd has also coached elite level AAU teams in Georgia and California.
He has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.
Byrd, and his wife Renita, are the proud parents of five sons, John, Mike, Doug, Jerry, and Jesse.

James Frey was named the head women’s basketball coach at South Georgia Tech on June 18, 2012. In his first year as the Lady Jets head coach they posted a 20-12 record and made it to the conference tournament final four.
Frey was a member of the Coastal Georgia men’s basketball staff for over 20 years, serving as a recruiter and assistant coach. During his time with the Mariners, the team won three regular-season championships in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association and one tournament championship before leaving the league following the 2010-11 season to start competing as a four-year program in the NAIA.
Frey was responsible for many facets of the basketball program including scheduling, purchasing, overseeing individual player workouts, scouting opponents and preparing scouting reports, organizing and running summer youth and high school team camps and monitoring the academic progress of Coastal Georgia players.
In addition to working with the Coastal Georgia men’s team, Frey is also the assistant coach for the Mariners women’s team which played its first season in 2011-12. The team finished 19-10.
A graduate of Glynn Academy high school in Brunswick, Ga. Frey earned his bachelor’s degree in sports and Fitness Management from Troy University. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Sports and Fitness Management from Troy University.
Frey is married to his wife of 21 years Lisa and they have two children Lindsey (17) and Will (13).

Kezia Conyers has a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. She had an outstanding basketball career as a player at Appalachian State. She was the Southern Conference Freshman of the Year for 2002 – 2003, was the ASU Women’s Basketball MVP for 2004 – 2005 and again in 2005 – 2006. She was also the Southern Conference Player of the Month in February 2006, named an All Southern Conference Selection for 2005 – 2006, and was selected to the NCCSIA All-State team. Kezia Conyers is currently ranked 13th in all-time scoring at Appalachian State University with 1,211 points. She was also a member of the WBCA Nike’s “So You Want to Be a Coach” program in April 2007.
In addition to her outstanding career as a women’s basketball player, Conyers also has both high school and college coaching experience. She previously worked as the guard development coach at Tallahassee Community College in Tallahassee, FL. She was also an assistant coach at Converse College in Spartanburg, SC and has served as an assistant women’s basketball coach at Maclay High School and FAMU High School in Tallahassee, FL.
At Converse College she was also the Intramural coordinator and has been involved with numerous community service organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, the Spartanburg Soup Kitchen, Soul Santa, and the Big Bend Homeless Coalition.
At South Georgia Tech Conyers will be concentrating on guard development as well as assisting with recruiting. She will also work closely with the Campus Life.

Chris Ballauer is entering his first year as an assistant coach with the Lady Jets. He comes to South Georgia Tech from the College of Coastal Georgia where he was an assistant under Mariners Head Coach Gerald Cox for 14 years. Chris graduated from Central Gwinnett High School in 1995 and moved to Brunswick, Georgia, to play basketball at Brunswick Junior College.
Chris received his Associates of Liberal Arts from the College of Coastal Georgia. He is currently pursuing his Bachelors of General Studies with a Minor in education. He has also earned his Personal Training certification.
While at South Georgia Tech, Chris will help with player development concentrating on post play and strength and conditioning. He will also have recruiting and campus life activity responsibilities.
