Friday September 21, 2012
Classes begin October 10th, 2012

Get a jump start on your education or learn a new skill in just eight weeks! South Georgia Technical College will begin offering eight week mini-mester classes beginning Wednesday, October 10th as well as Saturday classes beginning, Saturday, October 13th.

Students, age 16 and over, can take classes in horticulture, auto mechanics, residential electrical, motorsports, culinary arts, early childhood care and education, machine tool, welding, air conditioning, health care, and computer information systems or get a jump start on college core courses like English, Math, or Psychology.

The regular mini-mester classes will be offered as day, evening, and on-line classes. The Saturday classes will be held from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. each Saturday from October 13th through December 14th. No classes will be held on Saturday, November 24th during the Thanksgiving holiday break.

“We are excited about the possibilities that the mini-mester and Saturday classes offer to those individuals who are interested in coming back to college or those who are seeking to expand their knowledge by learning a new skill,” said South Georgia Technical College President Sparky Reeves.

“Individuals who are working but would like to learn a new skill can sign up for Saturday classes in welding, automotive, culinary arts, early childhood care and education, machine tools, electrical maintenance, and many other hands-on type classes,” explained Reeves. “The mini-mester classes are a great way for individuals to continue their education while they work full-time or part-time. This is also a good way for students to pick up core type classes such as English, algebra, or psychology classes and be finished by the Christmas break.”

Students who are interested in signing up for the Introduction classes in Automotive Mechanics, Culinary Arts, Microsoft Word Application Specialist, Early Childhood Care and Education, Welding, Motorsports, Health Care, and core type classes, should contact admissions at 229-931-2394 in Americus or 229-271-4040 in Cordele or visit the campus in Americus or Cordele. There is a $20 application fee.

All students are urged to complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students must have a high school diploma or GED to receive the Federal Pell grant. Students age 62 and older will have their tuition waived but will still be responsible for the application and other fees. Textbooks will be provided at no cost to students during the Saturday and mini-mester classes. Students may have to purchase consumable items such as workbooks, tools, or specialty kit items.

Registration and orientation for new students enrolling in the mini-mester or Saturday classes will be held on October 2nd.

Call today and take advantage of the Complete College Experience at South Georgia Technical College. Eight weeks can lead to exciting new opportunities and career advancement.
