Thompson named SGTC Student of Excellence for February
Tuesday February 25, 2014
Nikki Thompson, South Georgia Technical College Cosmetology student from Andersonville, was named SGTC Student of Excellence for the month of February during the college’s recent recognition ceremony held in the John M. Pope Industrial Technology Center on the Americus campus recently.
Thompson received a plaque of recognition and a financial award from SGTC for her accomplishments. She was nominated for this honor by SGTC Cosmetology instructor Dorothea McKenzie.
“Nikki has a beautiful attitude,” said McKenzie. “She’s always wearing a smile, and always volunteers to help.” Thompson, who is involved on campus as Student Leadership Council Secretary/Treasurer, thanked McKenzie and her other Cosmetology instructors—Robin Hardin and Airel Rolle—for always being willing to help and offer constructive criticism. “If you practice having a positive attitude every day, it will become a habit,” Thompson said of what keeps her motivated to succeed.
Each month, students from certain divisions selected for that month are nominated for the Student of Excellence award by their instructors. This month’s ceremony recognized students in the health and personal services programs at SGTC. The winner is selected based on grades, work ethics, participation in clubs and organizations, and amount of program completion. Each nominee is presented with a certificate and a South Georgia Technical College Student of Excellence T-Shirt.
