Thursday August 7, 2014
Malcolm Stegall, a 6’ 7” small forward from Marietta, has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at South Georgia Technical College for the 2014 – 2015 season, announced Jets head basketball coach Douglas Byrd.
Stegall attended Wheeler High School in Marietta and was showcased at a Best of the South tournament in Suwanee last year. Stegall was spotlighted in The Best of the South tidbits for his play last July. A quote in the tidbits of the day write-up stated, “Malcolm Stegall caught some attention after shooting the ball well. He will continue to open some eyes as he continues to play well.”
South Georgia Technical College Jets head basketball Coach Douglas Byrd said, “I am looking forward to working with Malcolm on his new beginning as a student-athlete. He appears to be a gifted athlete with a bright future in the classroom and on the basketball court.”
Coach Byrd is only bringing back one player from last season, Brandon Jackson, a 6’ 3” guard from Shaw High School in Columbus, GA.
This will be Coach Byrd’s first season as the head coach at South Georgia Technical College, but he has been an assistant with the program for the past two and a half seasons. In his first full season as an assistant coach, the Jets posted a 22-10 record and last season the Jets posted a 29 – 5 overall record.
The Jets are the 2013 – 2014 defending GCAA conference champions, and represented NJCAA Region XVII at the National Junior College Athletic Association National Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas and finished among the top 16 teams in the nation.
