South Georgia Technical College offers online courses through the Georgia Virtual Technical Connection - an organization made up of the 34 technical colleges in Georgia who work together to offer courses over the Internet. Online courses allow students to learn almost anywhere and at any time. All that the student needs are Internet access and an email account.
Students enrolled in a GVTC class get the same high quality instruction and course content that technical colleges in Georgia provide to traditional students.
A successful online student must be able to complete assignments with little or no supervision. Self-discipline is a must. Online classes are not "independent study" classes. They require active participation in the class, submitting assignments on time, and taking exams in accordance with a pre-determined calendar.
Are you ready to take a distance-learning course?
Find out by completing the READI Distance Learning Readiness Assessment.
It will take just 25 minutes to complete and must be completed before applying for an online program.
The scores from your assessment will not prevent you from applying for online programs.
This web-based tool assesses your likelihood for succeeding in an online learning program. READI indicates the degree to which you possess attributes that contribute to success in online learning, including:
Time management skills
Availability of time
Ability to use a laptop, printer, software and the Internet
READI uses a sequence of activities to measure the degree to which you possess the traits needed for success in studying at a distance and provides immediate score and diagnostic interpretation of results to you.
READI includes five major assessment components that measure:
Preferred learning styles
Typing speed and accuracy
Benefits To You
You may be hesitant to study at a distance for fear that you might not do well. READI helps you to recognize your strengths and provides resources to strengthen your weaknesses.
Reporting - Each potential student who takes READI receives immediate feedback in the form of an individualized report that shows his/her score for each of the various READI components.
Solutions - If the instrument determines that a user is not ready to study at a distance, links to potential remediation resources are provided.
