After class, there are many opportunities for students to gain vital leadership skills and socialize with other students by being involved in Phi Beta Lambda (PBL), Student Leadership Council (SLC), Skills-USA VICA, and the National Vocational Technical Honor Society (NVTHS). Most clubs offer the chance to compete with other technical college students at local, state and national levels.
You won't get bored at South Georgia Tech. There are many fun activities to keep students entertained. The SLC schedules many different activities on campus, such as virtual NASCAR ®, blood drives, Fun Flicks, and other activities. Also, the Campus Life department offers intramural sports for all seasons. You can find students participating in flag football, basketball and softball. Also, students enjoy the softball field, tennis courts, weight room, and gymnasium between classes.
Speaking of sports, did you know that South Georgia Technical College is the premier technical college to compete in the Georgia Junior College Athletic Association? The JETS and LADY JETS, SGTC's intercollegiate basketball teams, are also members of the National Junior College Athletic Association. The men's team was established in 2001 and the women's team was established in 2004. Both have reached national rankings in the NJCAA.
If you need a little rest and relaxation after all of this activity you can retreat to Hicks Hall which houses a newly renovated student center and lounge area. You can play cards, billiards, ping-pong, foosball, work out in the exercise room, or just hang out and relax. An exercise and weight room is also available.
For more time to yourself, relax by the fully stocked fishpond on the south end of the campus or have a picnic in Tom Gailey Park. The choice is yours!
