South Georgia Technical College recently hosted a meeting of the advisory committee for its Basic Law Enforcement program on the Americus campus. Led by Law Enforcement Academy Director Jim Mitchell, the meeting brought together academy personnel and law enforcement leaders to review the program and discuss the evolving needs of the profession.
Advisory committee meetings provide an opportunity for industry partners to offer feedback that helps keep the curriculum current and responsive to workforce demands. Topics discussed included training methods, equipment needs, curriculum updates, student preparedness, and emerging issues facing today's law enforcement agencies.
South Georgia Technical College representatives attending the meeting included Campus Police Chief Calvin Hodge Jr.; Academic Dean Brett Murray; WIOA Coordinator Sandhya Muljibhai; Criminal Justice instructor Teresa McCook; Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of Academic Affairs Melissa Hollis; and Law Enforcement Academy Administrative Assistant Melissa Grantham.
Representing area law enforcement agencies were retired Americus Police Department officer Cal Anderson; Montezuma Police Chief Eric Finch; Americus Police Lt. Eric English; Americus Police Chief Mark Scott; and Georgia Bureau of Investigation Special Agent in Charge Joe Chesnut.
The ongoing collaboration between SGTC and local law enforcement agencies helps ensure graduates receive relevant, hands-on training that prepares them to meet the challenges of modern policing and public safety.
