South Georgia Technical College recently held its annual car show, and Shannon Landon took home the Best in Show award for her 1969 Mercury Cougar Eliminator. Over 45 entries were on display including cars, trucks, SUVs and motorcycles.
Landon’s Cougar also claimed first place in the old car (1900-1993) category, while second place went to Eric Soos for a 1967 Chevrolet Chevy II. Bubba Lewis’s 1993 Mustang Cobra earned third place in the group.
Lewis took home first place in the new car (1994-present) competition for his 2003 Mustang Cobra. Second place went to Mike Belcher for his 2022 Chevrolet Camaro, and third place was awarded to Chandler Highnote for a 2017 Chevrolet ZL1 Camaro.
In the truck category, Tommy McCurley’s 1972 Chevy Cheyenne took first place honors. Mike Castleberry’s 1994 Chevrolet C1500 won second place, and the 2017 Ford F150 from Austin Coleman earned third.
The best paint job was awarded to Highnote’s Camaro, with Curtis Dupree’s 2018 Ford Mustang coming in second, and Coleman’s F150 taking home third place honors.
Benjie Wisham won the best motorcycle award for a Harley Davidson Street Glide, and Ma’Teo Grayson’s 2018 Ford Mustang earned the Kids’ Choice award for best ride. The Sumter County Mafia earned the prize for most car club members present.
The SGTC Car Show was organized by Motorsports Technology Instructor Kevin Beaver and John Deere Tech Instructor Matthew Burks. Participants and visitors also enjoyed complimentary hamburgers and hot dogs prepared by South Georgia Technical College Academic Dean David Finley.
In addition to showcasing a variety of vehicles, the event provided an opportunity for attendees to learn about the more than 200 associate degree, diploma, and technical certificate of credit programs available at South Georgia Technical College. The college is currently accepting applications for the Fall Semester, which begins Aug. 17.
