SGTC Adult Education Advisory Committee Meets to Review Program Progress

The South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) Adult Education advisory committee recently convened in the John M. Pope Industrial Technology Center on the college’s Americus campus to review program developments and discuss student achievement and community partnerships.

Dean of Adult Education Tracy Israel and Adult Education instructors provided updates on enrollment, curriculum enhancements, outreach initiatives, and student accomplishments throughout the program.

Made up of representatives from local businesses, agencies, and community organizations, the advisory committee helps support the ongoing growth and effectiveness of SGTC’s Adult Education program. Members offer feedback on workforce needs, community trends, and educational opportunities to help ensure students are prepared for continued education and career success.

Members present included: Ken Kirk, IET/WPL Coordinator; Pam Register, Advisory Board Representative for Schley County; Allyson Drinnon, Field Representative for the office of Congressman Sanford Bishop; Melissa Jernigan, Counselor at Marion County Middle/High School; Dalan Gavin Wright, GED graduate, 2026 EAGLE representative for SGTC; James Ingram, Adult Education Instructor at SCCI; Melissa Faircloth, Adult Education Instructor at SCCI; and Marisa Wedges, Director of Youth Empowerment Pathways/YouthBuild in Crisp County.

Representing SGTC were: Lisa Holloway, Adult Education Lead Instructor; Tracy Israel, Dean of Adult Education; Margie Everett, Adult Education Instructor in Webster County; Karen Werling, Vice President of Operations; Lisa Jordan, Adult Education Data Manager; Margie Martin, Adult Education Instructor for Schley County; Lisa Truitt, Career Services Specialist for Adult Education; Destiny Walker, Adult Education Instructor in Crisp County; and Sandra Dantes, Adult Education Instructor in Macon County.

SGTC’s Adult Education program provides individuals with opportunities to earn their high school equivalency credential while building pathways toward employment advancement and higher education. Many Adult Education students continue their studies by enrolling in college-level programs at South Georgia Technical College.
