The Computer Information Systems (CIS) advisory committee at South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) recently met in the Odom Center on the Americus campus to review program developments and discuss current trends within the information technology industry.
Advisory committees provide valuable industry input that helps SGTC maintain relevant, workforce-focused academic programs. During the meeting, CIS instructor Veronda Cladd shared updates on enrollment, curriculum improvements, student accomplishments, and outreach activities.
Committee members offered feedback on emerging technologies, workforce needs, and opportunities to strengthen the program. Discussions included potential curriculum enhancements, internship and employment opportunities for students, salary expectations within the field, and the skills employers are seeking from new graduates.
By maintaining strong relationships with industry professionals, SGTC ensures that students receive training aligned with current technology standards and workplace demands. The advisory committee's recommendations help faculty evaluate program effectiveness and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
Industry representatives attending the meeting included Mike Wilson, Director of Technology for Schley County Schools; Chris Saunders, Network Engineer with NEOS Technologies; and William Patterson, Network Engineer with Phoebe Putney Health System. South Georgia Technical College representatives included Academic Dean David Finley, Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Grants Coordinator Katrice Martin, and Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of Academic Affairs Melissa Hollis.
