South Georgia Technical College recently held an advisory committee meeting for its Early Childhood Care and Education program, bringing together instructors, college representatives, and professionals from childcare and education to review the program and discuss workforce needs.
Early Childhood Care and Education instructors Jaye Cripe, who teaches on the Americus campus, and Cambrette Hudson, who teaches at the Crisp County Center in Cordele, met with committee members to discuss the program and gather feedback from professionals working with children and families.
Advisory committee meetings give SGTC instructors an opportunity to hear directly from employers and community partners about current practices, workplace expectations, and the skills students need as they prepare for careers in early childhood education. Committee input also helps the college evaluate curriculum, training, and opportunities for students.
Outside representatives attending the meeting were Jackie Holmes, owner of Tooty Tots Child Care Center in Americus; Verneda Johnson, District Parent Coordinator for Macon County; Monica Warren, Director of Early Learning for the Crisp County School System; and Brandi Roland, School Counselor at Furlow Charter School.
SGTC representatives attending were Melissa Hollis, Receiving and Distribution Manager; Katrice Martin, Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Grants Coordinator; Cynthia Carter, Career Services Director; Ashley Dukes, Academic Dean; and Sandhya Muljibhai, WIOA Coordinator.
Feedback from advisory committee members helps SGTC keep its Early Childhood Care and Education program aligned with the needs of childcare centers, schools, and other employers while preparing students for careers working with young children.
