SGTC Electrical Systems Technology Advisory Committee Meets

Posted on

South Georgia Technical College recently held an advisory committee meeting for its Electrical Systems Technology program. The committee met with SGTC instructors and administrators to review the program and discuss industry needs, workforce expectations, and opportunities for students.

Electrical Systems Technology instructors Patrick Owen, who teaches on the Americus campus, and Jeff Sheppard, who teaches at the Crisp County Center in Cordele, met with committee members to discuss the program and receive feedback from industry representatives.

Advisory committee meetings provide an important connection between SGTC programs and the businesses and industries they serve. Committee members offer input on curriculum, equipment, emerging technologies, workplace expectations, and the skills employers are seeking from graduates.

Industry representatives attending the meeting included Dan Torbert, retired from Torbert Electric; Ronnie Miller of the Crisp County Power Commission; and John Royal of Royal Electric and Electric Wholesale.

SGTC representatives attending were Katrice Martin, Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Grants Coordinator; Melissa Hollis, Receiving and Distribution Manager; Sandhya Muljibhai, WIOA Coordinator; Brett Murray, Academic Dean; Owen; and Sheppard.

Input from advisory committee members helps SGTC keep its Electrical Systems Technology training aligned with current industry practices while continuing to prepare students for employment and career advancement in the electrical field.
