The National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) Americus chapter of South Georgia Technical College donated back-to-school supplies for the students of Sumter County Elementary School recently as one of their community service projects.
The donated supplies consisted of hygiene items such as Kleenex, hand sanitizer, and disinfecting wipes. The items were purchased through personal funds donated by the existing members of the NTHS Americus chapter.
The project was spearheaded by NTHS Americus chapter treasurer Karina Santos-Pagan. The SGTC NTHS members met with Sumter County Elementary School Assistant Principal Brittany Brock to donate the back-to-school supplies prior to the start of the 2026 – 2027 school year.
Matthew Cowan, SGTC Biology Instructor, is the NTHS advisor for SGTC on the Americus campus and Karina Santos-Page, Greg Hester and Katelyn Thorpe were the NTHS students who volunteered to help with this project. Greg Hester is the President of the Americus NTHS chapter and is currently in pursuit of completing his education in Automotive Service Small Engines while both Karina Santos-Pagan and Katelyn Thorpe are pursing education in the Early Childhood Education programs.
Each of these three students are expected to return Fall Semester and to continue NTHS work and further the ideals of service to their campus and local communities. They chose this service project because of the need that existed within the community.
