Industry professionals and South Georgia Technical College faculty and administrators recently came together on the Americus campus to review the college’s Sports and Fitness Management program and discuss its continued alignment with the needs of the field.
The Sports and Fitness Management Advisory Council met in the James S. Peters Gymnasium as part of SGTC’s ongoing process of incorporating industry input into its academic programs. Advisory meetings provide an opportunity to review program updates, student learning outcomes and program needs while giving community and industry representatives a voice in recommendations for the program.
Participating in the meeting were Dwight Harris, Jeff Fussell, Tim Estes and Rick Carr of Sumter County Parks and Recreation, along with Ben Hicks, Senior Associate Director of Athletics for Georgia Southwestern State University.
Representing SGTC were Jets Head Coach Chris Ballauer; Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach and Sports and Fitness Instructor Stephen Birchfield; Athletics Coordinator Terri Battle; Melissa Hollis, Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of Academic Affairs; and Academic Dean Ashley Dukes.
Input from advisory council members helps SGTC evaluate its curriculum, training and program resources while preparing students with skills relevant to careers in sports and fitness management.
