The Americus Fire Department impacted student success at South Georgia Technical College recently by cooking out for the South Georgia Technical College Aviation Department during an end of summer semester celebration. The students enjoyed a meal of grilled hamburgers, chips, and deserts and participated in a corn hole tournament.

Americus Fire Chief Roger Bivins, Battalion Chief Terry Westbury, Captain Keith Dutcher, Billy Jones, and Cody Vickers volunteered to come out to the South Georgia Technical College Aviation Hanger and grill out for the approximately 50 aviation maintenance, aircraft structural, and avionics technology students and faculty in the Griffin B. Bell Aerospace Technology building.

“We are very appreciative of the Americus Fire Department and their support of South Georgia Technical College and our faculty, staff, and students,” said SGTC President Dr. John Watford. “These firemen are charged with protecting the lives and property of the people who live and work in our community. We are so thankful that they volunteered to come out and help make this type of impact on our students as they finish up their summer semester classes.”
