Former Jets return to visit South Georgia Technical College

Two members of the South Georgia Technical College first Jets basketball team came back to their alma mater recently and visited with South Georgia Technical College Acting President Janice Davis, who also served as the college’s athletic director when the Jets basketball program was reinstated in 2001.

Mario B. Harris, formerly of Buena Vista, and Demetrius A. Colson, formerly of Bainbridge, Georgia, were both on campus during the National Junior College Athletic Association Division I Region XVII women’s basketball tournament held in the Hangar at South Georgia Technical College.

Colson is currently serving as the assistant women’s basketball coach for Georgia Highlands College. He and former Lady Jets head coach Brandan Harrell and the Georgia Highlands Lady Chargers defeated the Lady Jets in the NJCAA women’s finals 65 – 63.

Colson served as the assistant women’s coach with Harrell at South Georgia Technical College from 2010 – 2012. He and Coach Harrell left South Georgia Tech to start the women’s basketball program at Georgia Highlands in 2012 – 2013.

Colston received his CIS – Microcomputer Specialist Degree from South Georgia Technical College and also attended Georgia Southwestern State University where he was a member of the Hurricanes basketball team.

Mario Harris is a graduate of Tri-County High School and came to play basketball and attend South Georgia Technical College. He received his Marketing Management diploma in 2003. He is now working with in the Macon area.

Both reminisced about their days on the court with the Jets basketball team and enjoyed talking with their former Athletic Director Janice Davis, who is now acting President at South Georgia Technical College.
