Jets fall to third-ranked Gordon College in GCAA contest

Barnesville, GA – The South Georgia Technical College Jets suffered a 75 – 63 loss to the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association Gordon State College Highlanders in Barnesville recently. Gordon State College is on a six-game winning streak and are 9 – 4 in the conference and 19 – 8 overall. The Jets fell to 2 – 11 in the GCAA and 8 – 19 overall.
The Jets got behind early against the Highlanders and were down 45 – 27 at the end of the first half. The Jets came back and pulled within six-points of the Highlanders in the second half and actually outscored Gordon 36 – 30 in the last 20 minutes of the contest before succumbing 75 – 63.
Three members of the South Georgia Tech Jets were in double-figures. Freshman guard Mike Boone led the scoring attack with 20 points. He was eight of 16 from the field and four of five from the free throw line. He also had six rebounds and six assists.
Sophomore guard Pat Welch added 17 points. He was five of 10 from the three point line and then added another two point shot. He also had three assists on the night. The only other SGTC player to score in double figures was freshman forward Marquel Wiggins with 10 points. He also came away with four rebounds. Jalen Thomas contributed seven points, Andre Kennedy was held to four points, Jordan Bates added two and Bobby Jackson closed out the scoring with one point.
Gordon College had five players in double-figures.
The Jets will travel to Albany with the Lady Jets on Wednesday, February 22nd for a conference double-header against Albany Tech. The Lady Jets play at 5:30 followed by the Jets at 7:30. The two teams return home on Saturday, Feb. 25th for Sophomore Day. SGTC will host Atlanta Metro. The Lady Jets open at 1 p.m. and the Jets follow at 3 p.m. All SGTC sophomore players will be highlighted at the games.
The Jets will have one more regular season conference game on March 4th. They will host South Georgia State College at 7:30 p.m.
