Sophomore Bigue Sarr, 21, led the Lady Jets in scoring with 22 points against Thomas University in a pre-season scrimmage Saturday.

The South Georgia Technical College Lady Jets came out strong in the second half to stretch a narrow 29 – 26 half-time lead to a 64 – 46 win over the Thomas University Lady Night Hawks from the NAIA Sun Conference in the Hangar in Americus.
“We did not play with much intensity in the first half,” said South Georgia Technical College Athletic Director and Lady Jets head coach James Frey. “I thought we did much better in the second half. We have good to shoot better from the three-point line in order to continue winning. I was excited to see the effort that we received from our players off the bench. Bigue Sarr did a good job scoring underneath the basket and Laky Samo, a freshman, also did a good job.”
Sophomore center Bigue Sarr from Dakar, Senegal led the Lady Jets in scoring with a career high 22 points. She was 11 of 22 from the field. She also pulled down eight rebounds to lead the Lady Jets in that stat as well. She scored 12 of her points in the first half to help the Lady Jets to their narrow lead during the first 20-minutes.
Freshman center Laky Samo from Maputo, Mozambique accounted for 17 points and six rebounds. Seven of her points came in the first half. Sophomore forward Ricca Jackson closed out the double-digit scoring for the Lady Jets with 10 points and three rebounds.
The Lady Jets were 0 for 7 from the three-point line against Thomas University who shot four for 15 behind the three-point semi-circle. The difference in the game could have been in the points scored from the players off the bench. SGTC had 19 points from the non-starters (Laky Samo had 17 of those) while Thomas University’s non-starters only contributed four. SGTC almost doubled Thomas University in total rebounds at 39 to 20.
Other Lady Jets putting points on the board against Thomas University included sophomore Fatou Pouye who scored eight points and had three rebounds for the Lady Jets. Freshman Amar Edeh scored four points, freshman Yasriyyah Wazeerund-Din added two points and freshman Rio Yamazaki closed out the scoring with one point.
The Lady Jets will open up the regular season November 1st on the road in non-conference action but will return home to face Cape Fear and Wallace State in the Lady Jets Classic on November 10th and 11th. The Jets will be in action in the Hangar in a pre-season contest with Middle Georgia Prep on Monday, October 29th at 6 p.m.
