The South Georgia Technical College Lady Jets busted the clock as they rolled to a 106 – 52 victory over Wesleyan College in the Lady Jets final scrimmage before beginning the 2019 – 2020 official basketball season.
“We played pretty well but we had some mental lapses during the game and we can’t afford to do that during the season. We missed a lot of baskets under the bucket and we can’t do that and expect to win.” said South Georgia Technical College Athletic Director and Lady Jets head basketball coach James Frey.
The Lady Jets open the 2019 – 2020 season at home Friday and Saturday, November 1 and 2nd with the Lady Jets Tip-Off Classic. The opening game on Friday, November 1st will feature Central Georgia Tech vs Chattahoochee Valley Community College. The Lady Jets will follow at 7 p.m. with a match-up against Santa Fe College. On Saturday, Santa Fe College will play Central Georgia Tech at 1 p.m. followed by the Lady Jets and Chattahoochee Valley Community College at 3 p.m.
The Jets also open the season this weekend. They travel to Wilmington, NC for the Region 10/17 Tipoff Tournament. They Jets play Cape Fear Community College at 7 p.m. Friday, November 1st; USC Salkahatchie at 5 p.m. Saturday; and Spartanburg Methodist College at 1 p.m. Sunday.
“This should be some good basketball,” said Frey. “But these game count so I am hoping that our girls and our boys are ready. The Lady Jets have had some injuries so we are going to have to rely on the freshmen to come in and step up.”
In the match-up against Wesleyan College, the Lady Jets started off slowly and were only up 27 – 17 at the end of the first quarter. They came back and expanded that lead to 52 – 26 by the half. In the second half, the Lady Jets rolled to an 81 – 40 lead at the end of the third period and were up 106 – 52 at the final buzzer.
