SGTC Lady Jets Fatou Pouye named GCAA Division I Player of Week

South Georgia Technical College sophomore forward Fatou Pouye from Kaolack, Senegal, was selected as the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) Division I women’s basketball Player of the Week for her performance on the court for the first week of January 2019.
This is the third time this season that Pouye has been selected for this honor and the fourth time that a Lady Jets player has been highlighted for outstanding play on the court for the 2018-2019 season. Pouye was first selected as the Player of the Week on November 12th. She shared the honor that week with Sharai Lay of Georgia Highlands. She was selected again for the week of November 19th.
Pouye was the first women’s basketball player selected as the Player of the Week in Division I for 2019 and she averaged 16 points, 10 rebounds, two steals, 2.3 assists and 1.3 blocks in three wins for the Lady Jets.
Her teammate Bigue Sarr, a 6’ 3” sophomore center from Senegal, was the other Lady Jets to be selected as the Divison I GCAA women’s basketball Player of the Week. She earned the honor for her performance on December 17, 2018.
The Lady Jets are currently ranked first in the GCAA Division I standings with an 8 – 0 conference record and a 16 – 2 overall record. Georgia Highlands is the only other unbeaten team in the conference at 5 – 0 and they are currently ranked second in the GCAA. The two teams meet for a GCAA showdown tonight at 5:30 in the Hangar on the SGTC Americus campus. The Jets will face the Georgia Highlands men’s team which is currently tied for second place in the conference with a 1 – 0 record, at 7:30 p.m. in the conference double-header.
The Jets and Lady Jets will then take a week off before traveling to Southern Crescent Technical College in Griffin for a double-header on January 16th. The teams will play at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m.
