Camille Coleman (4) was the top scorer for the Lady Jets.

MACON, GA – The nationally ranked South Georgia Technical College Lady Jets captured their ninth straight victory Saturday when they rolled to a 68 – 55 win over the Central Georgia Technical College women, but the Jets were not so fortunate. The Jets fell to the second place Central Georgia Tech Titans 78 – 60 in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) contest in Macon.
The Lady Jets are ranked first in the GCAA with a 9 – 0 record and a 21 – 3 overall record this season. They are currently the only GCAA Division I women’s team enjoying a National Junior College Athletic Association ranking.
“We should have won by a much larger margin, but we just didn’t execute in the fourth quarter,” said South Georgia Technical College Athletic Director and Lady Jets head coach James Frey. “We only scored four points in the final 10-minutes of that game. We had a 64 – 36 lead going into the fourth quarter and gave up 19 points while only scoring four points. We can’t play like that and win at the next level.”
Jets head coach Travis Garrett also expressed frustration by his team’s performance. The Jets have lost their last two conference outings. “They simply outplayed us,” said SGTC Jets head coach Travis Garrett. “You can’t make only 32% of your total shots and 23% of your three point shots and expect to win against good competition.”
Sophomore guard Camille Coleman was the leader on the court for the Lady Jets in their victory. She had 18 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and four steals. Freshman forward Esther Adenike was the only other Lady Jet in double-figures and she had 10 points, 12 rebounds, one assist, four steals and two blocked shots.
Sophomore guard Shineequah Fluellyn and freshman forward Houlfat Mahouchiza both added eight points. Fluellyn had four rebounds, four assists and one steal and Machouchiza came up with six rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots. Madison Cameron scored seven points, Sceret Ethridge had six points, and Kanna Suzuki tossed in five points. Sophomore forward Desiree Corbin had four points before she had to leave the game with a busted chin that required eight stitches. Despite that she also had nine rebounds and one blocked shot in the first nine minutes of the game.
For the men, four players were in double-digits. Ed Jones, a sophomore forward led the way in scoring with 13 points and six rebounds. Pat Welch, a sophomore guard, had 11 points and then Jalen Thomas and Andre Kennedy closed out the double-digit scoring with 10 points each. Kennedy was the leading rebounder for the Jets with 11. Sophomore Trevon Teague had seven points and Bobby Jackson tossed in four points. Jamon Moore and Mike Boone accounted for two points each and Marquel Wiggins had one.
The Jets were down 37 – 32 at the end of the first half and managed to close the gap even closer in the second half until Central Georgia Tech pulled away in the final minutes by outscoring the Jets 41 – 28 to capture the 78 – 60 victory.
Both the Lady Jets and the Jets travel to Marietta to Chattahoochee Tech on Wednesday, February 8th for another conference match-up. Game time is 5:30 and 7:30 p.m.
The two teams return home on Saturday, February 11th for a big conference double-header against Georgia Highlands. The Lady Jets play at 1 p.m. and the Jets play at 3 p.m. Georgia Highlands’ women are in second place in the conference behind the Lady Jets and the Georgia Highlands’ men’s team is in first place in the conference and ranked third in the nation.
