Ellaville, GA – South Georgia Technical College Jets and Lady Jets basketball players along with the college’s mascot, “ACE”, traveled to Schley County Elementary School recently to read to kindergarten, first, and second grade classes.

“This is our way of giving back to the community,” said South Georgia Technical College Athletic Director and Lady Jets head basketball coach James Frey. “It is amazing to see the looks on the children’s faces when these tall basketball players walk in and volunteer to read a book to the students. The players and the students really enjoy the interaction and we appreciate the local school systems allowing us to do this,” added Frey.

The South Georgia Technical College Jets and Lady Jets basketball teams have been visiting different elementary schools throughout the college’s six county service area during the months of September and October to read to different classrooms.

The Jets and the Lady Jets kick off their regular season at home on Tuesday, November 1st with a doubleheader. The Lady Jets face Chattahoochee Valley Community College at 6 p.m. and the Jets will play New Rock Prep at 8 p.m.
