The Automotive Technology Advisory Committee at South Georgia Technical College recently met in the Morgan Transportation Building on the Americus campus to discuss program developments and the changing needs of the automotive workforce.
Automotive Technology instructor Brandon Dean provided committee members with updates on enrollment, curriculum, student achievements, and the program’s involvement in the community.
Industry representatives and SGTC faculty discussed a variety of topics affecting automotive education and employment, including new technologies, opportunities for specialized training, potential curriculum enhancements, and internship and career opportunities for students. The group also shared information about salary expectations and the skills employers are seeking from graduates entering the field.
SGTC relies on advisory committees to provide a direct link between its academic programs and the industries they serve. Feedback from committee members helps instructors keep training relevant as technology, equipment, and workplace expectations continue to evolve.
Industry representatives attending the meeting included Spencer Metheny of Precision Automotive, Jeremy Robinson of Miller Auto Parts, and John Beaver of Beaver Performance Racing. SGTC representatives included Auto Collision Repair instructor Starlyn Sampson, adjunct Automotive Technology instructor Jacob Smith, Motorsports Vehicle Technology instructor Kevin Beaver, Academic Dean Brett Murray, WIOA Coordinator Sandhya Muljibhai, and Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of Academic Affairs Melissa Hollis.
