The advisory committee for South Georgia Technical College’s Electrical Systems Technology program met recently in the John M. Pope Industrial Technology Center on the Americus Campus. Instructors Patrick Owen (Americus) and Jeff Sheppard (Cordele) shared updates on curriculum changes, enrollment trends, student involvement in the community, and other program highlights.
Advisory committee members offered valuable insight on emerging instructional methods, technology updates, and employment and internship opportunities for Electrical Systems Technology students. The group also discussed realistic salary expectations for graduates entering the workforce.
Members present were Dan Torbert of Torbert Electric (retired), Ronnie Miller of the Crisp County Power Commission, Shannon Faircloth of Faircloth Electric, Darrell Crenshaw of Electrical Wholesale Supply Company, and Richard Payne of Cook Industrial Electric Company.
Also representing SGTC were Automation Technology instructor David Price, Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of Academic Affairs Melissa Hollis, Career Services Director Cynthia Carter, WIOA Coordinator Sandhya Muljibhai, and Academic Dean Dr. David Finley.
These committee meetings serve as an essential link between SGTC and local employers, helping shape programs that meet regional workforce demands and equip students with the skills needed to succeed.
