A collaboration between Georgia-Pacific and South Georgia Technical College is providing students with expanded opportunities to enter the electrical workforce through hands-on experience and industry engagement.

Through the Electrical Apprenticeship Program, students are gaining practical experience while continuing their academic training, strengthening the connection between classroom instruction and real-world application.

Barry Talley III of Leesburg has accepted a position as an electrical technician apprentice with Georgia-Pacific while continuing his studies as a first-semester Automation Technology student at South Georgia Technical College under the instruction of David Price. Talley previously graduated from the college’s Electrical Systems Technology program in December 2025. He also earned recognition as a state winner in woodworking at the SkillsUSA High School State Leadership and Skills Conference.

Artavious Warren has been hired full-time as an electrical technician with Georgia-Pacific’s Albany Lumber Mill. Warren is scheduled to graduate in December from the Electrical Systems Technology program. He earned second place in Electrical Construction at the SkillsUSA Georgia Postsecondary State Leadership and Skills Conference in March.

Cynthia Carter said Warren demonstrated strong readiness for employment during his mock interview and career readiness assessment.

Electrical Systems Technology Instructor Patrick Owen said both students come highly recommended and are well-prepared for success in the electrical field.

Carter added that careers in the electrical industry offer strong earning potential and advancement opportunities. She also met with current students to share information about Georgia-Pacific career pathways, including opportunities at its headquarters in Atlanta and at facilities across nearly 30 states.

South Georgia Technical College offers more than 200 programs of study designed to prepare students for high-demand careers. Learn more and apply for admission at www.southgatech.edu. Summer semester begins May 27.
