Kevin Ellis of Americus has been hired as a full-time English Instructor for South Georgia Technical College effective immediately, announced President Dr. John Watford. He will be teaching in-person and online English classes and will report to SGTC Vice President of Academic Affairs Julie Partain.
“I would like to welcome Kevin Ellis to South Georgia Technical College,” said Dr. Watford. “Kevin brings over nine years of collegiate teaching experience to South Georgia Tech as well as another seven years of high school and English as a Second Language instruction. I believe he will be an asset to the college and our students. He will strengthen the English section of the General Education faculty on both the Americus and the Crisp County campuses and will give students additional opportunities to complete core classes.”
Ellis is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Literature and Criticism from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He has a Masters of Arts in Critical Literacy from Georgia Southwestern State University and a Bachelor of Arts in History from GSW.
He has been employed at Georgia Southwestern State University as an English Lecturer since 2020. He was the GSW Entry Program English Lecturer from 2017 to 2020. He also taught at The Crenshaw School in Buena Vista and at the Sihui Experimental School in Shiui, China, as an ESL (English as a Second Language Instructor). He also worked as an ESL Instructor and Activities Coordinator at GSW from 2010 - 2015.
As an English Instructor at South Georgia Technical College, Ellis will be providing English course instruction to students utilizing appropriate teaching techniques under minimum supervision. He will also be responsible for completing all documentation related to assigned courses in a timely manner.
South Georgia Technical College is currently accepting students for Summer and Fall Semester. The eight-week summer session begins May 27 and it is not too late to apply. Fall semester classes begin August 17. An in-person orientation and registration day will be held on May 26th and June 23rd. SGTC offers students the “Complete College Experience” with nationally recognized academics, student activities, and intercollegiate athletics.
SGTC has been named the Best Community College in Georgia for the past five years by two different agencies and was also recognized recently as the third best college in Georgia for Associate Degrees.
