James Griffin of Oglethorpe, a 2019 graduate of the Aircraft Structural Technology (AST) program at South Georgia Technical College, recently visited his former instructor, Jason Wisham, to speak with students about industry expectations, on-the-job training, work ethic, and opportunities for career advancement. He also offered practical advice on how to secure employment and succeed in the field.
Griffin has been employed for the past six years with Gulfstream Aerospace in Brunswick, where he works in Special Missions.
During the visit, Griffin was joined by his daughter, Aurianna Capra, who is preparing to begin her own educational journey at South Georgia Technical College. A former dual-enrollment student at Macon County High School, Capra is now homeschooled and recently scored exceptionally well on the ACCUPLACER placement exam. She plans to enroll full-time in the college’s Barbering program for the fall semester.
Capra said her interest in cosmetology began several years ago while participating in an after-school hair salon club in Benton, Tennessee.
Cynthia Carter said Griffin’s return to campus provided valuable encouragement for current students exploring careers in aviation and other technical fields.
Aircraft Structural Technology Instructor Jason Wisham recalled Griffin as a dedicated student with a strong commitment to precision and excellence. He noted that Griffin was recognized as both a GOAL nominee and a Student of Excellence during his time in the program.
