South Georgia Technical College recently recognized 14 graduates of its Nail Technology program during a completion ceremony on the college's Americus campus. Family members, friends, faculty, and college administrators gathered to celebrate the students' accomplishments as they prepared to begin careers in the beauty industry.
South Georgia Technical College President Dr. John Watford congratulated the graduates on completing the program and encouraged them to remember the impact they will have on their clients throughout their careers.
"The beauty industry is about making people feel better about themselves," Watford said. "When people feel good about themselves, they feel good about others. They are more kind to others and more understanding of others. This world needs more of that."
Watford noted that nail technology requires more than technical ability, calling it both a science and an art that combines skilled hands, knowledge, and compassion to help clients feel confident.
Graduates recognized during the ceremony were Ashley Albritton, Caroline Clower, Alasia Colwell, Ashley Esquivel, Kimberly Gonzalez, Lakeria Hosley, Viveca Jones, Lilianna Martinez, Arkendra McRae, Savannah Miller, Evelyn Morgan, Jamie Perez, Lemecia Smith, and Sherri Stephens.
During the ceremony, class representatives Arkendra McRae, Salutatorian Lakeria Hosley, and Valedictorian Sherri Stephens reflected on the friendships they formed, the challenges they overcame, and the dedication required to complete the program.
Nail Technology instructor Jessakeetha Maddox congratulated the graduates and thanked the college's administration and faculty for supporting the program. She praised the students for their perseverance throughout the program and encouraged them to continue pursuing their dreams. "As you walk across the stage today, just know that I'm so proud of each and every one of you," Maddox said. "I know this was not an easy task, but I always told you, if it's easy, it's not worth it. Continue to reach for the stars and don't leave any behind."
The Nail Technology program at South Georgia Technical College provides students with hands-on training in nail care, sanitation, safety, and salon professionalism, preparing graduates for careers in the beauty and wellness industry.
