SGTC Welding Advisory Committee Meets at Crisp County Center

Posted on

South Georgia Technical College recently welcomed industry representatives to the Crisp County Center for a meeting of the Welding and Joining Technology advisory committee.

Welding instructor Tom Mayo met with committee members and SGTC representatives to review the program and discuss ways to keep training aligned with the needs of employers in the welding and fabrication industries.

Advisory committees give SGTC faculty an opportunity to hear directly from professionals working in the field. Their feedback helps the college evaluate curriculum, equipment, workplace expectations, emerging technologies and employment opportunities for graduates. Similar meetings are held regularly across SGTC programs to help ensure students are learning skills that remain relevant in the workforce.

Industry representatives attending the recent meeting included George Houston of Yancey Brothers, Ben Ergle of Cordele Metal Works, and Scott McDuffie and Brantley White of Harris American.

SGTC representatives attending were Mayo; adjunct instructors Anna Saint and Troy Gilliam; Sandhya Muljibhai, WIOA Coordinator; Katrice Martin, Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Grants Coordinator; and Matthew Kennedy, Dean of Academic Affairs.

The committee’s input provides an important connection between the Welding and Joining Technology program and employers who rely on skilled welders, helping SGTC continue preparing students for career opportunities throughout the region.

South Georgia Technical College offers more than 200 associate degree, diploma and technical certificate of credit programs. For more information about SGTC and its Welding and Joining Technology program, visit southgatech.edu.
