The Aviation Maintenance, Avionics, and Aircraft Structural Technology advisory committee at South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) recently met for its Spring Semester meeting in the Odom Center conference room on the college’s Americus campus.

The committee, made up of aviation industry representatives and SGTC personnel, provides guidance and feedback to help ensure the college’s aviation programs remain aligned with current workforce needs and industry standards.

Aviation Maintenance instructors Victoria Herron, David Grant, Paul Pearson, and Robert Sturgeon, along with Aviation/Avionics instructor Charles Christmas and Aircraft Structural Technology instructor Jason Wisham, presented updates on enrollment, curriculum developments, community outreach activities, and student achievements.

Industry representatives attending the meeting included Harry Averill, Phillip Connor, and Jesse Peabody of Pratt & Whitney, as well as James Manning of the Federal Aviation Administration. South Georgia Technical College representatives included Academic Dean Brett Murray, Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Grants Coordinator Katrice Martin, WIOA Coordinator Sandhya Muljibhai, and Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of Academic Affairs Melissa Hollis.

Through advisory committee meetings, SGTC maintains strong partnerships with business and industry leaders who provide valuable insight into emerging technologies, workforce expectations, and training needs. This collaboration helps ensure graduates are prepared to enter high-demand careers in the aviation field.
