Two South Georgia Technical College employees were recently recognized for their years of service and dedication to SkillsUSA during the 2026 SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference.

The SkillsUSA National Office annually honors volunteers whose commitment helps make the SkillsUSA Championships possible. The Years of Service (YOS) program recognizes individuals who contribute their time and expertise as technical committee members, judges, educators, and industry partners. Service awards are presented at milestones beginning with five years of service and continuing throughout a volunteer's involvement with the organization.

Career Services Director Cynthia Carter received a 10-Year Service Pin for her work as a National Education Team (NET) member. Carter was also recently selected to serve as National Technical Committee Chairperson for the Community Service competition area.

Psychology instructor Dr. Michele Seay was recognized with a 5-Year Service Pin for her contributions as a National Education Team member and judge.

The awards were presented by Tamara Chandler, a cosmetology instructor at Metro Technology Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, during the national conference.

According to SkillsUSA, Years of Service recognition is cumulative and does not require consecutive years of volunteer service. The program highlights the contributions of individuals who help create meaningful learning and competition experiences for thousands of students across the country each year.

Carter said SkillsUSA's success is built on collaboration among educators, business leaders, and volunteers working toward a common goal. "SkillsUSA is a partnership, working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce," she said.

SkillsUSA is one of the nation's largest workforce development organizations, providing students with opportunities to develop leadership, technical, and workplace skills through classroom instruction, competitions, and service activities.

South Georgia Technical College students regularly participate in SkillsUSA competitions at the state and national levels, showcasing the skills and knowledge they gain through the college's career and technical education programs.
