South Georgia Technical College recently partnered with Crisp County Schools for a series of outreach events designed to engage younger students in STEM activities and introduce high school students to healthcare career pathways.

At Crisp County Elementary School, SGTC faculty, staff, and students participated in the school’s after-school STEM program. During two special sessions, approximately 120 third-, fourth-, and fifth-grade students took part in hands-on activities led by SGTC instructors, staff, and students, along with Dr. David Finley and representatives from Chattahoochee-Flint RESA.

Working in partnership with RESA STEM Coordinator Heidi Goodin, participants explored a variety of interactive learning experiences, including cookie decorating, math-based activities, and operating a robotic hand. The SGTC Mobile STEM Lab also provided additional activities that were especially popular with students. SGTC nursing students assisted with the program, helping guide and engage participants throughout the sessions. The event was organized by Crisp County Elementary School Principal Felipe Ricardo and Assistant Principal Justina Fox.

In addition to the elementary STEM program, the SGTC Crisp County Center also hosted approximately 40 healthcare students from Crisp County High School for a campus tour focused on medical career pathways. For the second consecutive year, the students were divided into small groups and rotated through SGTC’s Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Nurse Aide, and Medical Assisting programs.

SGTC’s Crisp County Center recently hosted healthcare students from Crisp County High School for a campus tour focused on medical career pathways.

During the tour, students interacted with instructors and current SGTC students, gaining insight into program expectations, hands-on training, and career opportunities in the healthcare field. SGTC instructors Carol Cowan, Deborah Fultz, Chad Mays, and Chad Morgan, along with nursing instructor Nancy Mozo from Crisp County High School, helped coordinate and lead the experience.

These events highlight South Georgia Technical College’s ongoing commitment to community engagement and workforce development by providing meaningful, hands-on learning opportunities for students at all levels.
