Brandon McLemore of Americus was awarded a South Georgia Technical College Foundation automotive scholarship recently. The scholarship was sponsored by Jason Holloway and John Dixon of Jason’s Touchless Car Wash and J & J Oil Change on Tripp Street in Americus. Kevin Beaver is his instructor.

Jason Holloway and John Dixon partnered with the South Georgia Technical College Foundation to provide scholarships for deserving students enrolled in the automotive programs at South Georgia Technical College.

“I am thankful for this scholarship,” said McLemore. “I enrolled at South Georgia Technical College in the automotive collision and repair program while I was still in high school at Schley County High School. I learned a lot in that program and after graduation, I decided to come back and enroll in the Motorsports Vehicle Technology program.”

When asked why he took advantage of the dual enrollment program in high school, McLemore said he “figured he would try college classes out.” He did and he earned a diploma in the Auto Collision and Repair program even before he graduated from high school, he decided to increase his knowledge of cars and pursue a diploma in the Motorsports Vehicle Technology program at South Georgia Technical College with Instructor Kevin Beaver.

McLemore plans to use the scholarship for tuition not covered by the HOPE grant.

In order to be eligible for this scholarship, students must be enrolled in the auto collision repair or automotive technology programs one semester or longer. Awards are based on academic excellence, teacher recommendation, student participation and need. Students can utilize the scholarship fund for tuition, on-campus housing and meals, tools, uniforms, program necessities, and educational equipment.

Brandon McLemore is the son of Rick and Sherry McLemore. He also has a sister that is enrolled at Schley County High School. “I would like to thank South Georgia Technical College for the opportunity to come to school here. I also wanted to thank Jason Holloway and John Dixon for providing this financial assistance to students.”

“On behalf of everyone here at South Georgia Technical College, I would like to thank Jason Holloway and John Dixon for partnering with South Georgia Technical College on this scholarship for our automotive students,” said South Georgia Technical College President Dr. John Watford. “This is a tremendous opportunity for local businesses to give back to this community and support a very worthwhile investment in the overall workforce as well as in the lives of our students.”

Jason Holloway thanked President Watford for his comments and added, “John and I are pleased with what South Georgia Technical College is doing in our community and we are excited to be able to help automotive students further their education through this scholarship.”

Jason’s Touchless Car Wash is located at 529 Tripp Street in Americus and offers specialized detailing as well as automated car washes. J & J Oil Change at 531 Tripp Street offers oil change, tire balancing and rotation, wiper/belt/air filter replacement and coolant flushing with transmission service.
