South Georgia Technical College Culinary Arts instructor Ricky Watzlowick and his culinary arts students on the Americus campus gained valuable experience recently and also donated their time and talents for a good cause.
The SGTC Americus Culinary Arts program uses hands-on instruction to teach students and as part of their “hands-on baking” experience recently the students created two coconut pies, a 15-layer caramel cake, a 15-layer chocolate cake, honey bun cake, cream caramel cake, sour cream banana cake, two banana nut breads, and two huge baskets of cookies for the South Georgia Technical College Foundation’s 2018 Internal TechForce Employee Silent Auction and Luncheon.
The cakes, pies, and cookies were a big hit with the faculty and staff in the silent auction bidding. During the silent auction, SGTC faculty and staff were bidding on donated items to help the Foundation provide funding for scholarships and textbooks at no cost for students, as well as state-of-the-art equipment for Aviation Maintenance Technology, Electronics Technology, and the Commercial Truck Driving programs.
The purpose of the “Celebrate Success with South Georgia Tech” fund drive is to provide assistance to students as they prepare to enter the workforce. This time, the Culinary Arts students and Instructors donated their time and talents to help the Foundation. The Culinary Arts students also served the food at the Employee Luncheon. Aramark prepared and donated the food for the Employee luncheon.
The SGTC Culinary Arts instructors and students who helped with the project included: Chef Ricky Watzlowick, Taariq Addullah, Yakira Lipsomb, Stephanie Garren-Raper, Christine Anderson, Ka’Nijah Foster, Nicholas Walton and Tarnise Williams.
