South Georgia Technical College Americus Culinary Arts instructor Ricky Watzlowick and Crisp County Culinary Arts Instructor Hunter Little and their culinary arts students on the Americus and Crisp County Center campuses gained valuable experience recently and also donated their time and talents for a good cause.

The SGTC Culinary Arts program uses hands-on instruction to teach students and as part of their “hands-on baking” experience recently the students created cakes, cookies, and wedding fingers for the South Georgia Technical College Foundation’s 2019 Internal TechForce Employee Silent Auction and Luncheon.

The cakes and other baked goodies were a big hit with the faculty and staff in the silent auction bidding. During the silent auction, SGTC faculty and staff were bidding on donated items to help the Foundation provide funding for scholarships and textbooks at no cost for students, as well as state-of-the-art equipment for Construction Trades, Precision Machining and Manufacturing, Air Conditioning Technology and Log Truck Driver Safety Training programs.

The purpose of the “Impacting Student Success @ South Georgia Tech” fund drive is to provide assistance to students as they prepare to enter the workforce. This time, the Culinary Arts students and Instructors donated their time and talents to help the Foundation. The Culinary Arts students also helped Aramark and served the food at the Employee Luncheon. Aramark prepared and donated the food for the Employee luncheon.

Members of the SGTC Americus Culinary Arts program who participated in this project included: Jacob Bagatta, Benny Burch, ShiQuoia Cheney, Chanda Deriso, Roderick Douglas, Malik James, Kimberly Kirksey, Kolawole Ogunmuka, Mikayla Sims, L’Niqua Warner Leann White, Susan White, LaQuanza Angrish, My’keria Gibson, Sameerah Layton-Clark, Curdavious Porter, Destiny Solomon, Makiya West, Jalen Boyd, Nahlah Fareed-Williams, Laquwanna Gordon and Jada Harpe.
