Former SGTC Basketball Standout Yazz Wazeerud-Din Awarded Second-Team All-Conference Honors

Former South Georgia Tech Lady Jet Yazz Wazeerud-Din of Marietta, GA has earned Second-Team All-Conference honors in the ASUN conference following her impressive junior season with the Stetson University Hatters.

Wazeerud-Din graduated from South Georgia Technical College in 2020 and helped lead the Lady Jets to their best season in the history of the program.  During her two years at South Georgia Tech, the Lady Jets earned back to back Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) regular season titles as well as back to back National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XVII tournament wins and NJCAA District J championships.  The 2019-2020 team also earned the right to advance to the NJCAA National Tournament in Lubbock, Texas prior to the tournament’s cancellation due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Wazeerud-Din helped lead the Lady Jets to the college’s best overall record for men’s and women’s team with a 30 – 2 overall record.  The Lady Jets were 18 – 0 during her freshman season and 17 – 0 during her sophomore year in the GCAA.  The Lady Jets finished her sophomore season ranked 11th in the nation.

Wazeerud-Din has been a major contributor to the Hatters this season. On the year, the 5-11 guard has averaged 15.5 points per game while leading the conference in free throw percentage and ranking sixth in 3-pointers per game with 2.1. She has topped 20 points in scoring six times this season. On defense, Wazeerud-Din’s overall steals and steals per game (49, 2.3) both rank first in the league.

During the regular season with Stetson, Wazeerud-Din earned one ASUN Player of the Week award and two ASUN Newcomer of the Week award.
