South Georgia Technical College Jets sophomore forward Marquel Wiggins was selected as the Division I basketball Player of the Week for the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association for the second time this year. This is the fifth consecutive week that both or either of the South Georgia Technical College men’s and women’s players have been named as the GCAA Players of the week.
Wiggins, a 6’ 6” forward from Oglethorpe, was selected as the GCAA Men’s Division I player of the week after he led the South Georgia Technical College Jets to back-to-back wins in the Jets Holiday Classic. The Jets defeated Wake Technical Community College 90 – 84 and St. Petersburg College 103 – 83 in the Holiday Classic.
Wiggins averaged 21 points and 12.5 rebounds per game in those two victories and help move his team to 8 – 6 overall. Wiggins has also helped the Jets claim the first place position in the Georgia Athletic Association standings this season. The Jets are now 2 – 0 in the conference.
Wiggins was named the GCAA player of the week in December when he averaged 31 points and pulled down 20 rebounds in an overtime win over Tallahassee Community College. That was the first loss of the season for the Tallahassee team.
