Joshua Blake of Vidalia was officially sworn in as a full-time Basic Law Enforcement instructor at South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) during a recent SGTC Board of Directors meeting. The oath was administered by newly appointed SGTC Campus Police Chief Calvin Hodge, Jr.

SGTC President Dr. John Watford previously announced Blake’s hiring as part of the college’s ongoing commitment to providing high-quality, hands-on training through its Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) Certified Law Enforcement Academy.

Blake brings over 14 years of law enforcement experience to the position, most recently serving as the Traffic Division Supervisor for the Vidalia Police Department. A 2010 graduate of the Ogeechee Technical College Law Enforcement Academy, Blake is a POST Certified Instructor and holds numerous specialized certifications, including Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) status through the International Association of Chiefs of Police.

His background spans patrol, supervision, criminal investigations, narcotics, and impaired driving enforcement. Throughout his career, Blake has taken pride in training and mentoring other officers through field training and supervisory roles.

As a full-time instructor at SGTC, Blake will deliver instruction to cadets in the 18-week Basic Law Enforcement Training program. HOPE Grant qualified candidates can attend tuition free and receive college credit toward an associate of applied science in Criminal Justice. Graduates of the program receive a 43-credit hour technical certificate and are eligible for POST certification and immediate entry into law enforcement careers across Georgia.

On-campus housing is also available for Law Enforcement Academy students and others.  SGTC is one of only two technical colleges in Georgia with on-campus housing.
