Mykaula Harvey joins SGTC as High School Initiative Specialist.

Mykaula Harvey of Cordele has been hired as a full-time High School Initiative Specialist at South Georgia Technical College effective immediately, announced SGTC President Dr. John Watford.  Harvey will report to High School Initiative Coordinator Vickie Austin and SGTC Vice President of Academic Affairs David Kuipers.

Harvey is a graduate of Crisp County High School and earned an Associate of Applied Science in Business Administrative Technology from South Georgia Technical College.  She continued her education at Mercer University and earned as Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership.  She completed a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership from Mercer in May 2022.

As a student at South Georgia Technical College’s Crisp County Center, Harvey was a Student of Excellence, and was a member of Phi Beta Lambda.  She competed at the Phi Beta Lambda District Conference and was recognized as the Outstanding Student in 2017 and finished in second place in Administrative Technology in 2017.

“On behalf of everyone at South Georgia Technical College, I would like to officially welcome Makaula Harvey as a full-time employee,” said SGTC President Watford.  “She was an excellent student and has continued her education and we are very fortunate to now be able to welcome her back as a member of the SGTC High School Initiative team.”

Harvey, along with High School Initiative Coordinator Vickie Austin and High School Initiative Specialist Beth Brooks Wisham will be working with all the high schools in SGTC’s seven county service area as a liaison between SGTC and each secondary school to facilitate the needs of middle and high school students interested in attending South Georgia Tech and enrolling in the Dual Enrollment program.

She will work with high school counselors, administrators, parents, and students to effectively communicate SGTC admissions procedures, financial aid information, test procedures, and more.  She will also assist in planning and implementing student recruitment activities and strategies as well as register SGTC Dual Enrollment students.  She will also attend College and Career Fairs, Apply to College Days, Parent Nights and Dual Enrollment Days at area high schools.

Dual enrollment allows high school students to take either academic degree level core courses that will transfer to any TCSG or USG college or university, occupational courses, and diploma level core courses.  All coursework taken through Dual Enrollment will be fully covered through State of Georgia funding up to 30 semester hours and students will not be required to pay out of pocket for tuition, college fees or textbooks.  Dual Enrollment does count towards a student’s HOPE Grant or Scholarship caps.

South Georgia Technical College offers students the “complete college experience” with over 200 associate degree, diploma, and technical certificate of credit programs as well as nationally ranked academic programs, intercollegiate athletics, and student activities.

SGTC is currently accepting students for Fall Semester.  Classes begin August 18th and it is not too late to apply.  Visit www.southgatech.edu to apply or contact Candie Walters, Admissions Director at cwalters@southgatech.edu or Admissions Coordinator Katrice Taylor in Cordele at ktaylor@southgatech.edu.
