SGT graduate encourages her son to enroll Spring Semester

South Georgia Tech 1993 Information and Office Technology graduate Telisa Lloyd credited her alma mater with giving her the foundation she needed to begin an educational and professional journey that led her to completing a Master’s in Applied Medical Sociology from Indiana University, Indianapolis, IN.
She and her husband recently enrolled their son, Warren Lloyd, in the Computer Information Systems and Networking Degree program for the 2025 Spring semester. SGTC Computer Information Systems instructor Veronda Cladd met with the family and gave them an overview of her program. SGTC recruiter Tylen Pepito gave them a tour of the college.
“South Georgia Tech gave me a great foundation and I wanted my son to have that same experience. The faculty and staff were wonderful. They supported the students, but I was also very involved and I hope he will do the same thing,” said Mrs. Lloyd.
Telisa credited a “persistent friend” for the reason she enrolled at South Georgia Tech. “I had already gone away to school and had a loan and no degree. My friend came to my house and asked me if I was ready to go enroll? I said, ‘No, I am not going to back to school.’ But I did and I am very glad that she was so persistent,” laughed Lloyd.
She enrolled at South Georgia Tech in 1992 and graduated in 1993 with her Information and Office Technology Diploma. Mrs. Sarah Pride was her English instructor and Lloyd said, “she was great. She taught me how to write papers. I used the skills she taught me when I went back to school to get my bachelor’s and master’s degree.”
Lloyd also said that her math instructor gave her a great foundation and in fact all of the interactions that she had with faculty, staff, and students encouraged her to enter the workforce and continue her education. “I received a great foundation here and I almost cried when we pulled in with my son, Warren.
“I know it is the same college, but it doesn’t even look like the same place,” laughed Lloyd. “But after the tour, I realized the type of program excellence and support of the students is the same and that is what I want for my son.” They chose South Georgia Tech not only because of the great experience she had here, but also because of the on-campus housing.
“We lived in Montezuma when I started at South Georgia Tech, transportation was an issue at times, and sometimes, I would have to catch a ride to school and find another way back home. After about two weeks of that, my husband showed up with a car for me to go back and forth to school. Persistence pays off!”
Having the support from her family, friends, and staff she received during her time at SGTC made all the difference in the world to press forward and continue and most importantly graduate! Ms. Lloyd also mentioned, “She has utilized her Information and Office Technology Diploma and her Applied Medical Sociology Degree, to obtain gainful employment ranging from Project/Program Management to Philanthropy.
South Georgia Tech is one of only two technical colleges in Georgia with on-campus housing. SGTC has also been named the top community college in Georgia for the past five years by two different organizations.
