Two South Georgia Technical College graduates officially joined the Americus Fire Department recently after completing their Firefighter I course at the college.

Austin Clemons and Colby Eason, both of Americus, successfully completed the 16-week course and were officially welcomed aboard. Fire Chief Roger Bivins presented the graduates with their helmet and gear at a special graduation ceremony for the new firefighters. Family members, friends, SGTC instructors Stephen Morris and Todd Shufflebarger, as well as academic dean Vanessa Wall, attended the ceremony.

The Firefighter I Technical Certificate of Credit program is conducted in cooperation with the Georgia Fire Academy and Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training to ensure graduates have the skills, knowledge and credentials to serve as firefighters in paid and volunteer fire departments.

Individuals interested in taking the course can contact Vanessa Wall by calling 229-931-2713 or emailing vwall@southgatech.edu for more information.
