South Georgia Technical College recently held a workshop focusing on ideas for erasing student anxiety. Dr. Michelle Seay, SGTC Psychology Instructor, was the guest speaker for the workshop, which was coordinated by Deo Cochran, SGTC Retention and Coaching Specialist. Dr. Seay gave the students in attendance a few tips and tricks to minimize and relieve stress. A few of the ideas mentioned were to regroup and gather yourself and your thoughts, have a strong support system, and do activities such as coloring or completing puzzles. Dr. Seay stressed the importance of the students’ success and education and also mentioning that students should strive to better themselves.

Every semester, the LIFE (Learning Is for Everyone) Lab holds workshops that are available for SGTC students to help them with their college experience and any questions or concerns they have. Students are encouraged to take advantage of the LIFE Lab support services on both the Americus and Crisp County Center campuses. Some of those services include group or individual tutoring and counseling by appointment, study skills, workshops, referrals, COMPASS and ASSET exam preparation and more.

The mission of the LIFE Lab is to improve student retention by preventing academic problems from becoming the reason for non-attainment of educational goals.
