South Georgia Technical College’s Americus campus chapter of the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) and Student Government Association recently participated in a number of community outreach and service projects for the community. NTHS sponsored a Giving Tree, which the student organization coordinates annually, an Act of Kindness Drive, and a collaboration with the Student Government Association (SGA) to collect toiletries and other necessities for the local homeless shelter, Ruby Dean Smith Friends on a Mission Relief Shelter.

NTHS’s fifth annual Giving Tree was a campus-based outreach project that provided assistance to students who demonstrated a need during the holiday season through a confidential application process. “Through the support of SGTC faculty, staff, and students, NTHS was able to meet the needs of our families,” said NTHS Advisor Raven Payne.

The Act of Kindness drive, also organized by the NTHS, consisted of several community service projects, including collecting magazines to be donated to Friendship Missionary Baptist Church’s homeless shelter. The honor society also collaborated with SGTC’s Student Government Association in its annual toiletry drive for Ruby Dean Smith Friends on a Mission Relief Shelter.
