SGTC Honors Inductees into National Technical Honor Society
South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) recently inducted 20 new members into the college’s chapter of the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) in recognition of the students’ outstanding academic achievement. The ceremony was held in the John M. Pope Industrial Technology Center on the Americus campus.
SGTC President Dr. John Watford welcomed those in attendance and congratulated the students on their accomplishment. “You are representing the best of South Georgia Tech and excelling in what you do,” Watford said to the inductees. “Be proud of what you’ve achieved.”
After a greeting from NTHS member Naja Lindsey, mathematics instructor Chester Taylor shared a statement of the purposes of the NTHS: to reward excellence in workforce education; to encourage students to reach a higher level of achievement; to promote honesty, responsibility, teamwork, leadership and citizenship; to help build and maintain partnerships with local business and industry; and to foster a more positive image for workforce education in America.
Biology instructor Matthew Cowan then presented the meaning of the NTHS Colors. Silver represents value, reward, and worth; white represents truth, honesty; and purple represents achievement and honor.
NTHS member Barbara Chestnut explained the symbolism of the NTHS shield followed by SGTC tutor Dr. Pam Fields and inductees placing candles to represent responsibility, scholarship, skill, honesty, citizenship, leadership, and service, the seven attributes all members of the NTHS share in common.
Inductees recited the NTHS motto and received personalized certificates commemorating their induction into the National Technical Honor Society.
The students inducted were: Jade Nichole Banks of Americus, Criminal Justice; Keinosia Brown of Sumner, Horticulture; Angel Gauthier of Byromville, Technical Studies; Gregory David Hester of Cuthbert, Motorsports Vehicle Technology; Chante Holmes of Riverdale, Early Childhood Care and Education; Krista Hudson of Oglethorpe, Cybersecurity; Anthony Jenkins of Americus, Business Administration; Jaymon Kentrel Jones of Shellman, Diesel Equipment Technology; Jacob Keith of Butler, Automotive Technology; Blake Kersey of Vienna, Aircraft Structural Technology; Charity Laster of Americus, Computer Support Specialist; Mary Katherine Madrid of Leesburg, Horticulture; Denver Lewis of College Park, Technical Studies; James McDaniel of Plains, Electronics Technology; Debra Monts of Americus, Business Technology; Tera Parker of Montezuma, Culinary Arts; Donovan Robertson of Albany, Automotive Technology; Willette Denise Smith of Americus, Criminal Justice; Erin White of Americus, Criminal Justice; and Maurice Lashaun Williams of Americus, Business Administration.
The National Technical Honor Society honors the achievements of students within workforce education, provides scholarships to encourage the pursuit of higher education, and cultivates excellence in today’s highly competitive workforce.
