SGTC Hosts Advisory Committee Meeting for Barbering and Cosmetology Programs

South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) recently convened a meeting of its barbering and cosmetology advisory committee on the Americus campus to review program updates and discuss trends shaping the beauty industry.
Made up of industry experts and college faculty, the advisory committee plays a vital role in guiding the continued development of SGTC’s barbering and cosmetology programs. Instructors Andre Robinson (barbering) and Dorothea Lusane-McKenzie (cosmetology) shared updates on student enrollment, curriculum adjustments, community involvement, and notable student accomplishments.
The committee members provided valuable input on potential curriculum improvements, emerging beauty technologies, training opportunities, and job placement outlooks. Their feedback helps ensure SGTC programs remain aligned with industry expectations and workforce needs.
Among the attendees were Martha Bruce of KB’s Beauty Salon; Greg Long of Long Cuts; Brandon Price of Sophisticuts; and Tracy Finch of Dorothea’s Beauty Salon. Students Matravious O’Neal (barbering) and Mary Aycock (cosmetology) also contributed to the discussion. SGTC Academic Dean Dr. David Finley and Alecia Pinckney, Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of Academic Affairs, were present as well.
By maintaining strong ties with professionals in the field, SGTC’s advisory committees help instructors stay ahead of changes in industry standards and workplace demands, ultimately enhancing student readiness.
