SGTC Jets come from behind to defeat Gordon State College
Barnesville, GA – Sophomore guard Rico Simmons from Wilkinson County, scored 26 points to lead the South Georgia Technical College Jets to a 91 – 84 Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) conference victory over Gordon State College recently.
The Jets are currently in second place in the GCAA with a 6 – 2 conference record and are 13 – 8 overall. Gordon dropped to 3 – 4 in the conference and 8 – 13 overall. They are currently ranked seventh in the nine-team conference.
Simmons was three of six from the three-point line and seven of seven from the foul line in addition to sinking five of eight from inside the three-point line to lead the Jets to their second consecutive conference victory.
Sophomore guard Dawan Bass from Baltimore, MD scored 21 points and another sophomore guard Mike Boone, from Charlotte, NC, tossed in 15 points. Sophomore guard Emeshuan Offord from Albany came off the bench to score 14 points and close out the double-digit scoring. Sophomore forward Marquel Wiggins from Macon County added nine points and then Adonis Green, DeVante Foster, and Malik Wilson, each scored two points to close out the scoring.
The Jets fell behind 43 – 42 at the end of the first half but came back strong in the second half to outscore Gordon, 49 – 41 to take the 91 – 84 victory. The Jets shot 52.5% from the field, 56.3% from the three-point line and 69% from the foul line.
The Jets and the Lady Jets will host East Georgia State College in a conference double-header against on Wednesday, January 31, with the ladies opening at 5:30 and the men following at 7:30 p.m. The two teams will travel to Macon for a conference rematch with Central Georgia Tech on Saturday, Feb. 3rd at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
The Lady Jets are currently in first place in the GCAA in the women’s Division 1 standings.
