The Sports and Fitness Management program at South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) recently held an advisory council meeting inside the James S. Peters Gymnasium on the college’s Americus campus.

The council is made up of industry professionals who offer insight and expertise to ensure SGTC’s academic programs remain aligned with current workforce needs. Council members volunteer their time to help guide curriculum development, assess equipment and training standards, and prepare students for career success.

Participating members of the Sports and Fitness Management Advisory Council included Brian Davis and Emily Newton of MSA Orthopedics; Jeff Fussell and Tim Estes of Sumter County Parks and Recreation; and Brandon Price of Planet Fitness.

SGTC staff in attendance were Athletic Director and Lady Jets Head Coach Jason Carpenter; Jets Head Coach Chris Ballauer; Lady Jets Assistant Coach Olivia Melvin; Athletics Coordinator Terri Battle; Alecia Pinckney, Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of Academic Affairs; and Academic Dean Dr. David Finley.

SGTC’s advisory councils play a vital role in bridging the gap between education and industry by keeping faculty informed of changes and expectations in the workplace.
