SGTC’s newly elected club officers attend Student Leadership Retreat

South Georgia Technical College students elected into student club and organization leadership positions had the opportunity to participate in a local student leadership retreat and installation ceremony, held recently in the John M. Pope Industrial Technology Center on SGTC’s Americus campus.

Club Presidents, Vice Presidents, Secretaries, Parliamentarians, Treasurers, Reporters, and Historians of the Student Government Association (SGA), SkillsUSA, Phi Beta Lambda (PBL), and the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) chapters from both the Americus campus and Crisp County Center campus met to network with other student club and organization leaders, participate in team building exercises, and participate in an officer installation ceremony.

The retreat began with a welcome from SGTC President Dr. John Watford and an overview of the retreat by SGTC Director of Career Services/Student Activities Cynthia Carter.

Three group team building activities were conducted by representatives from other technical colleges under the Technical College System of Georgia. Those representatives and their respective activities included: Mia Collier of Southern Regional Technical College, “Fusing People and Positions”; Tiffanie Root of Southern Crescent Technical College, “Making Teams Work”; and Sam Lester of Central Georgia Technical College, “Crucial Conversation.”

Following the group activities, SGTC Assistant to the President Don Smith led a ceremony to install the new officers, explaining the role of each officer as they lit candles representing their newly elected position.

The newly elected officers for the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) on the Americus campus included Linda Y. Kent of Montezuma, President; Leah G. Windham of Oglethorpe, Vice President; and Annie Streeter of Americus, Secretary. For the Crisp County Center chapter of NTHS, new officers included Maria Rivera of Vienna, President and State Officer; Valerie Byron of Cordele, Vice President; and Christian Powell of Cordele, Parliamentarian.

For the Student Government Association (SGA), the Americus chapter elected Stephanie Tyson of Americus, President; Deondria Cochran of Americus, Vice President; Odyssey Pitts of Macon, Secretary, and Amanda Hovey of Phenix City, Alabama, Parliamentarian. For the Crisp County Center chapter of SGA, the elected officers were James Young of Cordele, President; Mykaula Harvey of Cordele, Vice President; Dacey Parham of Cordele, Secretary/Treasurer; and Lisa Ray of Sylvester, Parliamentarian/Reporter.

Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) Americus chapter officers include Racarda Blackmon of Americus, President; Ashley Halstead of Ellaville, Vice President of Membership and Recruitment; Kimberly Jackson of Americus, Vice President of Community Service and Public Relations; Alicia English of Americus, Vice President of FBLA Interactions and Special Projects; Brandon Chatman of Thomaston, Vice President of Professional Membership and Corporate Sponsorships; Fierra Riley of Americus, Secretary; Andrea Burton-Willis of Americus, Assistant Secretary; Branyon Kendrick of Montezuma, Historian; and Brittany Sanders of Columbus, Assistant Historian. The Crisp County Center chapter of PBL elected D.W. Persall of Cordele, President; Lisa Ray of Sylvester, Vice President; Mykaula Harvey of Cordele, Secretary; and Christian Powell of Cordele, Parliamentarian/Reporter.

Americus campus SkillsUSA officers included Annie Streeter, President; Kaylee Bruer of Ellaville, Vice President; Kieshia McKenzie of Americus, Secretary; and Kaleb York of Cordele, Parliamentarian. The Crisp County Center chapter of SkillsUSA elected Joshua Cranford of Vienna as President.
